Cyrus Wietecha
Co-Founder
Born in Manila, The Philippines, Cyrus Wietecha (aka Cyrus Cruz) was raised in the San Jose CA. The middle child of 3, Cyrus' mom Ester consistently worked 2 jobs in order to support her family. Even though Ester was away a lot, she instilled a deep love and passion within Cyrus for Filipino food and the art of cooking. She always knew how to bring people together in the tradition of family and good Filipino food. This tradition Cyrus upholds and passes on to his children.
Contis Wietecha
Co-Founder
Contis Wietecha is from Santa Cruz, CA. She grew up fully immersed in the laid back, Boardwalk, bonfires-by-the-beach type of lifestyle. Her mother, also Contis, successfully ran her own company, Granzy's Gumbo, in the late 90s/early 00s, giving her a real example of a strong independent business woman. Contis is interested in writing, funny movies, and spending time with family and friends. When she was 19, she had her first child, Isaiah. A single mom without a dollar to her name, she decided to return to Santa Cruz to get her degree and provide a better life for her family. At UCSC, she was very involved in taking classes and participating in competitions in business and entrepreneurship.
How We Came To Be
Baby's Pinoy BBQ was born!
Cyrus and Contis met in the summer of 2014 while both rebuilding their lives. Neither of them expected to meet or fall in love. They had felt through the idea of starting their own company for awhile, fantasizing about going on Shark Tank together over dinner. But after experiencing the unexpected hardship of losing one source of income, they became more serious about the idea. Cyrus is a wonderful chef and friends and family told him for years that he should sell his special barbecue passed down to him by his dear departed mother Ester. With all the knowledge and skills Contis collected over the years from her own mom and school about business, starting Baby's was a completely natural development.
